The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® is a commercially available polymer treated cryotherapy wrap and pad that absorbs heat energy enabling a thermodynamic cycle in which the heat is removed from tissue allowing for tissues to be cooled. The products are reusable, odorless- contain no menthol, environmentally safe, “green”, biodegradable, latex and adhesive free. The Arctic Ease® products allow the end user to maintain their mobility while using the products unlike other market offerings.
The Arctic Ease® cryotherapy products utilize a patent pending benign chemical reaction to conduct body heat and evaporation to cool covered areas as it conforms to the injury site, regardless of the ambient temperature. This allows for greater thermal conduction due to the relatively large thermal conductivity of the patent pending Arctic Ease® products.
Starting Temperature when Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® is Pre-cooled via Refrigeration
When the product is refrigerated, which cools it to approximately 39°F within 5 minutes of placement on the human body the product warms to approximately 61.4°F and continues to raise in temperature at 15 minutes intervals to the following temperatures: 74.9°F, 68.0°F, 65.1°F and 68.1°F. The product then levels off to approximately 68.1° -71.1°F and holds this temperature after 2 hours of use.
Starting Temperature when Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® is at Room Temperature
At room temperature the product is approximately 68.1°F degrees and rises gradually over the next 60 minutes of utilization to approximately 71°-73.0F and continues to hold this temperature as the evaporation process continues to dispel heat from the dermis and cool the various layers of skin and underlying tissues over the next few hours.
Home use Instructions:
The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® is a controlled-release design which provides consistent, even thermal therapy, eliminating temperature extremes and the associated risks associated with frostnip, frost bite, nerve velocity conduction and cross contamination issues. The product allows the end user to maintain their mobility when used, unlike other market offerings.
The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® should be applied multiple times per day depending on the severity of the injured joint; the wrap may be worn for several hours at a time; on average home users are using the wrap 2-4 times per day and wearing the wrap for 1-3 hours per use. To use the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® wrap the effected joint utilizing a figure-8. A figure-eight wrap is used to limit joint movement of the hand, elbow, knee, ankle, or foot.
How to apply a figure 8 wrap using the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to an ankle:
1. Hold your ankle at about a 90-degree angle. Start where your toes meet the body of your foot. Hold the loose end of the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap at the side of your foot. Wrap the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap around the ball of your foot once, keeping it somewhat tight with a light pull.
2. After this first wrap, slowly start circling your way around the arch of the foot. Pull the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap diagonally from the bottom of the toes across the foot’s top and circle it around the ankle. Now bring the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap diagonally across the top of the foot and under the arch in a figure-eight pattern.
3. Continue wrapping the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap around the ankle and foot in a figure eight, moving toward the heel on the bottom and toward the calf at the top of the eight. The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap should cover the entire foot except for the heel and end several inches above the ankle.
4. To secure the end of the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap hold the end to the previously wrapped area for 2-3 seconds, the product will self adhere.
Is the Wrap Too Tight?
The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap should not be wrapped so tight that it causes discomfort or restricts circulation. You should be able to easily slide 1-2 fingers between the covered joint and the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap. You should remove the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap and try wrapping it again if:
* The bandage feels uncomfortably tight
* Your joint is more painful than when before you wrapped it
* The area directly above or below the bandage becomes numb or swollen or changes color
The wrap should be snug but should not cut off circulation to the foot. Check your toes. If they become purplish or blue, cool to the touch, or numb or tingly, the wrap is too tight and should be loosened. If you wear the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to bed, loosen the wrap at night before bedtime.
ARCTIC EASE® REUSE / REHYDRATION DIRECTIONS:
1. Reroll the wrap up from the outside in so that the far outside layer is now the most inside layer, return the wrap to the package.
2. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water.
3. Reseal package.
4. The wrap can be left in a cupboard, on the counter, etc. until it is needed again. It will take 2-3 hours for the wrap to rehydrate before it can be used again. Or if enhanced cooling is required the wrap can be stored in the refrigerator.
Other methods that have been utilized to rehydrate the wrap are (If a rapid recharge is required this method will achieve the desired affect):
1. After wearing the wrap for several hours reroll the wrap up from the outside in so that the far outside layer is now the most inside layer
2. Place the re-rolled wrap under cold water. Remove from the stream of water and firmly squeeze out all of the excess water.
3. Return the wrap to the resealable pouch
4. Either place the pouch in the refrigerator or in a cabinet until it is needed again.
