How to Use Arctic Ease

Home use Instructions:

The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® is a controlled-release design which provides consistent, even thermal therapy, eliminating temperature extremes and the associated risks associated with frostnip, frost bite, nerve velocity conduction and cross contamination issues. The product allows the end user to maintain their mobility when used, unlike other market offerings.

The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® should be applied multiple times per day depending on the severity of the injured area; the wrap may be worn for several hours at a time; on average home users are using the wrap 2-4 times per day and wearing the wrap for 1-3 hours per use. To use the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap® wrap the effected joint utilizing a figure-8. A figure-eight wrap is used to limit joint movement of the hand, elbow, knee, ankle, or foot.

How to Wrap most Moveable Joints in a Figure 8 Manner

A figure-eight wrap is used to limit joint movement of the hand, elbow, knee, ankle, or foot.

How to apply the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to an ankle

  1. Start wrapping at ball of foot, continuing under foot from inside to outside.
  2. Make 2 or 3 turns around foot moving towards ankle with each turn overlapping one-half of the previous layer. Begin a figure-eight turn bringing wrap up outside of foot, over instep and inside around ankle.
  3. Continue down inside of foot around heel, back up over instep, down under foot, and back up completely around ankle.
  4. Repeat the figure-eight 2 or 3 times overlapping one-half of the previous layer and rising above the ankle. Secure above ankle by smoothing self-adhering wrap.

How to apply the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to a knee

To apply, keep the roll toward the outside so that it “unrolls” around the part of the body being wrapped. To remove, begin rolling immediately so that wrap comes off the body in a neat roll.

Hold knee in normal standing position. Keep roll as close to the knee as possible. Make 1 to 1 ½ complete turns around the leg just above the knee. Take wrap up over the knee cap and make one and a half turns around the leg, just below the knee cap. – From there, begin a series of figure eights over the knee cap. Each figure eight should overlap the preceding one by two-thirds of the wrap width. Adjust tension as your particular need requires. Smooth the self-adhering wrap either above or below the knee – not on knee cap or at back of knee.

  1. Start wrapping above the knee making one complete circular turn to secure the wrap in place.
  2. Bring wrap diagonally behind knee and around leg just below the knee. Complete figure-eight by bringing wrap back up diagonally behind the knee and around the leg just above the knee.
  3. Make another complete figure eight overlapping lower on previous layer.
  4. Make a circular turn just above the knee and begin downward, overlapping circular turns around the knee providing compression to the whole joint. Secure below knee by smoothing self-adhering wrap.

How to apply the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to a wrist/elbow

  1. Start on inside of wrist with complete circular turn to secure wrap in place.
  2. Make figure-eight turn by bringing roll diagonally down across back of hand, between thumb and index finger and up across palm to wrist.
  3. Bring wrap around wrist and down across palm, around back of hand, between thumb and index finger, and up to wrist. Circle wrist. Complete second figure-eight turn.
  4. Circle wrist and begin circular turns up forearm, overlapping by one-half the previous layer. Secure above wrist by smoothing self-adhering wrap.

How to apply the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to a shoulder

  1. We recommend that you have assistance to wrap. Start wrap on outside of arm just below point of injury, wrapping it full circle around back of arm to secure it in place.
  2. Bring wrap around back, under other arm, across chest and over shoulder at point of injury.
  3. Continue wrap around back, under other arm and smooth self-adhering wrap at chest.

NOTE: If the last 2-4 inches of material begins to lose its adhesiveness you can still secure the wrap by tucking the end of the wrap underneath the last layer or by cutting off this portion with a scissor. Since the wrap will not slip or loosen while you wear it, do not wrap it too tightly. If swelling or discomfort occurs after application, loosen the wrap. Remove the wrap before going to bed. For best results, remove and re-roll the used wrap carefully. As you remove the wrap, re-roll it for future use. This will prevent wrinkling. By removing the wrap in this manner, and rehydrating according to package directions, it will be ready for re-use.

Is the Wrap Too Tight?

The Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap should not be wrapped so tight that it causes discomfort or restricts circulation. You should be able to easily slide 1-2 fingers between the covered joint and the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap. You should remove the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap and try wrapping it again if:

  • The bandage feels uncomfortably tight
  • Your joint is more painful than when before you wrapped it
  • The area directly above or below the bandage becomes numb or swollen or changes color

The wrap should be snug but should not cut off circulation to the foot. Check your toes. If they become purplish or blue, cool to the touch, or numb or tingly, the wrap is too tight and should be loosened. If you wear the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy Wrap to bed, loosen the wrap at night before bedtime.
